Ballyclare HS U13s 10 Down High Under 13s 20
The Down High boys travelled to Ballyclare looking for one thing; to bounce back after two narrow defeats but knew they would face a tough task.
Ballyclare kicked off and Down managed to retain possession well. After a few good phases it saw winger, Rhys Paterson dive over the try line for the first try of the game. Towards the end of the first half, Ballyclare came back and scored an unconverted try after Down were punished continually infringing in the rucks. Just before halftime, man of the match, Andrew McNeilly broke the defensive line and got tackled deep in the Ballyclare half, but Michael Donaldson was on hand to score. The half time score 10-5.
Down stretched their lead at the start of the second half when centre Harris McConnell powered over the line but once again Ballyclare refused to lie down and got a try themselves from yet more indiscipline from the Down forwards at the ruck. The next score was going to be crucial and the Mount Crescent men got it when flanker Ronan Patterson found himself in the backline to finish a well worked move. With the final play of the match, Christopher Scurfield came close to scoring, but was bundled out of play in the corner.
