Down High U13s took to the pitch on Saturday the 15th of September with a 2 out of 2 record so far this season. The boys were determined to keep the winning streak but Down High had problems going into the match with three key players missing including Rhys Patterson (wing) Dan Browne (scrum half) and Christopher Scurfield (hooker.) This was going to be a tough game for the Down boys!
So this proved to be with Down High finding themselves 10-0 down after 10 minutes with the big Grosvenor centre scoring all 10 of their points. However after a wake up call from captain Robin Wilson, Down High found themselves in the Grosvenor 22. Following a dozen phases or so, Down High were rewarded a penalty, with a quick tap from Ronan Patterson and a pass to birthday boy Robin Wilson and it was a try in the corner. Wilson failed to convert. At halftime the scores were 10-5 to Grosvenor.
In the second half Down High started to look fresh and were dominating possession and after a number of plays full back Jack Carlisle reached for the corner and scored. Wilson’s conversion hit the post. The scores were tied at 10 all but Down High were starting to look the better team, this quickly led to a great try by Harris McConnell. Wilson hit a great kick to put the scores to 17-10. With ten minutes to go the Down High boys had a scrum on the 10 metre line with a great number eight pick up from Luke Thompson making a superb run and then with an offload to Patterson to overpower Grosvenor’s wing and scoring in the corner. Wilson failed to convert but all day he give very good strikes to the ball and was very unlucky with his kicks.
