Down High U14’s B 7-25 Down High U13’s A.
After Cambridge House cancelled on the Down High fixtures, a select U14 side arranged a game with the U13 A team. From hearsay the U14 boys had been informed of the younger boys talent and strength and this was evident when within the first few minutes, some strong back running got the try that had been coming for the U13 side. They had run through our defence like a hot knife through butter.

Some words from captain Charlie Power and Michael Reynolds sparked the U14 boys into life. Immediately after the restart they turned the U13’s over and after several quick taps Charlie Power forced his way beyond the defence and added the conversion.

The U13s responded to this try through a terrific run from man of the match Zac Ward who presented the ball to Matthew Dougherty and got over for the 13’s second try. The half-time score was 10-7 to the U13’s side.

Throughout the second half, the U13 lads pressed harder at the tiring 14’s side. The loss of Robbie Stewart proved to be a big one as the U13’s scored another three tries. Gregory Stewart came on in Robbie’s place and was terrific in defence, taking down Sam Rickard and Clayton Milligan after the two props got a run on him.

The U13 side were sensational and extremely clinical, if they keep this up they will be one of the top sides in Northern Ireland. Zac Ward and Matthew Dougherty were outstanding as well as that there were stand out performances from Jonny McCoubrey and William Annet.

On the U14 team there were strong performances from Michael Reynolds, Ross Connolly, Charlie Power and Gregory Stewart. The U14 side need to work on tackling if they are going to beat strong sides.
