Down High take the Spoils at Year 8 Tournament
Down High hosted its annual Year 8 Rugby Tournament on Friday past. Ten
schools took part with over 24 games being played across the day.
The Down High B team finished second in their round robin group but were defeated in the trophy semi-final by Banbridge Academy.
In the main competition Down High A’s won their group, overcame Bangor Grammar in the semi finals and defeated Lurgan Junior High School 19-17 in a nail biting final. This was a fantastic achievement for the boys and the first time in the competition’s 11 year history that Down High has lifted the shield. Andy Ward was on hand to present the shield to captain Patrick Browne and winners medals to the squad.

Two wins at Dromore
The U12 A and B squads put in two great performances at a damp and mucky Barban Hill in Dromore. All the boys recent hard work at training on rucking showed up with plenty of quick and clean ball to play with on both squads. Scores were plentiful with both teams crossing the whitewash 9 times (A's won 45-5, B's won 49-5). It was also great to see a few new faces on the A team playing well and laying down their mark. A good day for Down High U12s!
Down High Teams lose to RBAI.
Both the A and B squads were beaten on Saturday 15th January by two well drilled RBAI sides. Although disappointed with the results, both teams learnt a lot from their performances and were glad to have got a game after the recent period without rugby as a result of the extreme weather. Next week the boys face Methodist College who will provide another stern challenge!
