After a difficult day at Sullivan on the previous week the Down High Senior Squad had much more rewarding journey to Royal School Armagh on Saturday past. It was fantastic to have three senior teams making the journey with a small number of medallion players supplementing the 3rd XV side and even better to come away with two wins out of three.
The first XV, who welcomed back Ulster School's player, Thomas Donnan got off to a pleasing start scoring two unanswered tries and a penalty in the first half. The first score came through winger Daniel Stanfield who benefited from quick ball on the back of a big break up the midfield from Kelvin Hamilton. Luca Rea was next on the scoresheet with a well struck penalty. The final Down High score came through Toni Rush after a great line break from Paddy Wright and some great interplay from the backs. Down High were unable to add to their count in the second half and leaked one last minue Armagh score.
All in all it was a very pleasing performance and although the backs scored all the points they were clearly given a strong platform by the aggressive work up front by the pack.
The 2nd XV lost their game but narrowly at 19-14 and the third XV won their game comfortably at 19-0.
