The 2nd XV completed a slightly more comfortable victory despite a brave comeback from the opposition. Down hit the ground running and William Browne nearly touched down in the corner in the first few minutes but it wasn’t long before Reece Hagan finished off a rolling maul to open the scoring with an unconverted try. Down played some really excellent rugby but the home side repelled some excellent running moves from the back. But quick unconverted tries from William Browne and Daniel Millington gave a scoreline more reflective of the half. Credit to the Pelicans who had the last word before halftime when the scored a converted try after a charge down clearance. Halftime score was 15-7 to Down High.
The game was wrapped up as a contest within the first 15 minutes of the second half with fine tries by Andrew McCoubrey, Scott Connolly and Michael Donaldson. With the score now 30-7 the tourists understandably took their foot off the gas and a yellow card for Rory Horder followed as well as two late consolation scores for the Pelicans which gave a final result of 30-21.
