Down High 2nd XV produced a fine performance to defeat a physical Washington Loggers U17 side. The Down boys hit the ground running and a fine pick up from number 8 Charlie Marshall led to a penalty which Greg Hutley converted. Within five minutes the tourists had scored two tries through Reece Hagan and Greg Hutley with Greg slotting two fantastic touchline conversions. The Loggers reacted well and they had the son of Fiji legend Waisale Serevi pulling the strings at out half. Credit to the Down defence for holding out and they had the last word of the first half when Hutley scored in the corner again. This time he failed with the conversion to leave the score 22-0 in favour of the boys in electric lime.
The second half started where the first left off and Hutley duly completed his hat trick of which he converted. It was then Luke Thompson who got in on the act with a fine try after Marshall stole an opposition lineout. At 34-0 the game was up but credit to the Loggers for not giving up and really took the game to Down but the visitors defence stood firm with some excellent defence work. However they could not hold out and Washington scored two consolation converted tries towards the end.
