Down High School Under 13s continued their winning streak when they travelled to Newtownards and returned with a 34-5 victory. From the kick off the Mount Crescent boys found it hard to get in to their stride but it soon became clear that they could use the full width of the pitch to move the ball along the backs and full back Jonathan Mason scored the first try after a fine backline move. Out half Greg Hutley added the extras. Hutley continued to trouble opposition with his intelligent cross field kicking and winger Christy Lindsay was unlucky not to score on two occasions. It was to be third time lucky for Hutley, who managed to chase his own kick and capitalise on a Regent mistake to score a try which he then converted. Down had the final word in the half when Torran Stock was on hand to pounce when Charlie Marshall was stopped inches short of the line. This left the halftime score 19-0 to the away side.
Down continued to dominate the second half and further tries for Marshall, Mason and Lindsay gave the boys in green a 34-0 lead. With the victory secured the team took their foot off the gas and Regent scored a consolation try towards the end of the game. This team continues to improve and the tough games keep coming with a visit to Ballymena Academy on Saturday.
