Junior Rugby Awards
On the evening of April 2nd, the school held its inaugral Junior Rugby Awards evening. Students and their parents gathered in the sportshall to celebrate the achievements of the school's junior rugby teams this season.
Each of the coaches for the 4 junior teams in the school took part of the evening to summarise their own team's achievements and to announce the individuals who had won awards. Ulster and Ireland Wolfhounds player Nevin Spence was present to hand out the awards to the winners.
The individuals who won awards were as follows:
Medallion:
Players player of the year: Patrick Preston
Most Improved Player: Jamie Gibson
Top try scorer: Nathan Gibson
U14:
Players player of the year: James McBride
Most Improved Player: John Hyndman
Top try scorer: William Martin
U13:
Players player of the year: Paddy Browne
Most Improved Player: Lewis Canning
Top try scorer: Jonathan McCoubrey
U12:
Players player of the year: Rhys Patterson
Most Improved Player: Michael Donaldson

Down High Complete Successful Junior Tour
Down High complete successful Junior Rugby Tour
On a crisp Wednesday morning, 44 boys and 5 staff gathered at Down High School to embark on a 3 day / 2 night rugby tour to Scotland. After an uneventful crossing to Cairnryan and a 2 hour bus journey to Glasgow, the touring party checked into their accommodation before setting off for their first matches against Glasgow Academy. Both teams recorded similar convincing victories with the Under 14s winning 47-7 and the Under 13s securing a 41-5 success. Special mention should go to Chris Beattie and Paddy Browne who were named man of the match in their respective matches. An interested spectator was Northern Ireland football’s record goal scorer and Killyleagh native David Healy who was there to support his nephew Ross Connolly who plays for the Under 14 side. ... Big Mouth Challenge
The Mr Gunson Big Mouth Challenge in aid of the IRFU Charitable Trust is now over and we raised £288. Thanks to all the pupils and staff who took part. Year 14 student, Justin Rea won the competition after he slotted 5 out of the 10 balls he threw.
If any students still owe money for the challenge please bring it to Mr Knox asap.
